Connecticut rules that affect a paycheck
- Connecticut's 2026 income tax runs from 2% to 6.99%, but four extra tables — a fading personal exemption, a 2% phase-out add-back, a recapture amount and a personal tax credit — set the real bill, the Department of Revenue Services' IP 2026(7) shows.
- CT Paid Leave: 0.5% of wages up to the Social Security wage base, up to $184,500 of wages.
- Connecticut's minimum wage is $16.94 an hour from January 1, 2026, rising to $17.48 on January 1, 2027. Full-time at that rate is $35,235 a year, which keeps $29,477.62 after tax for a single filer.
- Connecticut's sales tax rate is 6.35% on most goods and taxable services, with no local sales taxes.
- No standard deduction and no personal exemption: tax applies from the first dollar of compensation.
- Connecticut has no standard deduction. Instead a personal exemption ($15,000 single, $24,000 joint, $19,000 head of household) fades out as income rises, the benefit of the 2% bottom rate is clawed back above $56,500 ($100,500 joint), a recapture amount is added above $105,000 ($210,000 joint), and a personal tax credit of up to 75% of the tax applies only at low incomes. All four come from the Department of Revenue Services' 2026 tables.
- Wage earners file a Connecticut return as well as the federal one; for 2026 income both are generally due April 15, 2027.
