New York City rules that affect a paycheck
- New York City residents pay a city income tax on top of New York State's: the city's base rates of 2.7% to 3.4% plus a 14% additional tax, which works out to 3.078% to 3.876% of the same New York taxable income.
- Paid Family Leave: 0.432% of gross wages, at most $411.91 for 2026.
- Disability benefits (DBL): 0.5% of wages but no more than 60 cents a week ($31.20 a year); employers may collect it.
- New York City's minimum wage is $17.00 an hour in 2026. Full-time at that rate is $35,360 a year, which keeps $28,265.35 after tax for a single filer.
- 2026 standard deduction: $8,000 single, $16,050 joint, $11,200 head of household.
- NYC figures are computed from the statute (Tax Law §1304, Admin Code §11-1704.1); NYS DTF has not yet published the 2026 NYC rate schedule for filing — figures will be rechecked when it is published.
- Wage earners file a New York City return as well as the federal one; for 2026 income both are generally due April 15, 2027.
