Colorado rules that affect a paycheck
- Colorado taxes income at a flat 4.4% in 2026, applied to federal taxable income, so a Colorado return reuses the federal $16,100 standard deduction instead of having its own.
- FAMLI paid leave (employee share): 0.44% of wages (half of the 0.88% premium), up to the Social Security wage base, up to $184,500 of wages.
- Colorado's statewide minimum wage is $15.16 an hour in 2026. Full-time at that rate is $31,533 a year, which keeps $26,698.96 after tax for a single filer.
- No separate state deduction: Colorado taxes federal taxable income, so the federal standard deduction carries over.
- Colorado starts from federal taxable income, so the federal standard deduction already applies and there is no separate state deduction; some Colorado cities add a flat monthly occupational privilege tax, which is not included.
- Wage earners file a Colorado return as well as the federal one; for 2026 income both are generally due April 15, 2027.
